What does living fully in the present mean to you? Has your definition of living fully in the present changed during 2020? Since we have all been forced to slow down due to the coronavirus pandemic, perhaps some of us have learned to appreciate the miracles in our lives. The miracles that we once took for granted or did not recognize now have become blessings that we fully appreciate.
“Ichi-go Ichi-e (一期一会). This Japanese idiom, which originated from the traditional tea ceremony where every meeting was an occasion to be treasured, is now used today by people as a reminder to slow down and savor each moment because every encounter in life occurs only once. Its meaning is something like this: What we are experiencing right now will never happen again; we must value each moment like a beautiful treasure; we must become moment hunters. Becoming aware of Ichi-go Ichi-e helps us take our foot off the gas and remember that each morning we spend in the world, every moment we spend with our loved ones is infinitely valuable and deserves our full attention. The cultivation and practice of Ichi-go Ichi-e will allow you to lead a happier, more fulfilled life, without feeling weighed down by the past or anxious about the future. You'll learn to live fully in the present, acknowledging and appreciating the gift of every moment.”  - Pendulum Magazine
I look back and realize there are so many moments in my life that I did not value or treasure. I was focusing on the future at all times and forgetting to live in the present. Life passed me by while I checked the box each day of things I completed and while I planned for tomorrow. Over the past few months, I have learned a lot about myself and taken the time to dive deeper into understanding who I truly want to be. You have the ability to create a new you at any time. This time is my time to become a new and improved me.
Are you living fully in the present? Do you feel fulfilled in life? If not, think about Ichi-go Ichi-e and start to value each moment. Create a new you who doesn’t take life for granted, but instead lives it to its fullest with happiness in your heart. We all deserve this for ourselves.
