One of the important things I have adopted in my life is exercise. I enjoy pushing myself physically in several different ways. I exercise almost every day because I like it so much. I enjoy running, weight training, cardio workouts, HIIT, hiking, snow skiing, and road biking. Recently I have been doing a little yoga and pilates. Both Yoga and Pilates I have avoided for years. They feel slow, and I like to move faster. There is a lot of stretching in the routines, and I do not like stretching. However, I have recently found at 49 years old with marathons, ultra marathons, and countless jumping jacks and burpees under my belt my knees are starting to hurt and so are some other joints in my body. As much as I hate to admit that, I also know that it is natural after all of the things I have pushed my body to do. Especially in the last six years, that was when I really pushed the hardest.
The internet makes it so easy these days to try several different types of exercises to find out what you genuinely enjoy. And a number of them are for free and or use no equipment. Some of my favorite exercise websites are Fitness Blender, Global Cycling Network, and Boho Beautiful. If you go on to YouTube, there are countless websites for your choosing. I recommend you search around and find something that you love.
Exercise is so important. It is not only good for your body but also your mind. I am a big proponent of exercising if you are struggling with stress. If you ask my adult children what I tell them when they are having a problem with something or someone in their life they would say mom always says “you should go for a run or go to the gym or do an at-home workout. Something to help get you in the right frame of mind.” Of course, they will also say that it is a bit annoying that that is most often my answer to their frustrations. Hahaha, I know I can be annoying, but it is only because I love them so much and want the best for them.
I challenge you today to commit to exercising a few times a week. Take the time to research and try new things that you might enjoy. Start slow if you are new to exercising. I am confident if you take on this challenge, you will feel better both mentally and physically.
